Weeks before planning a very long car trip, my mother would get us some new small toys ahead of time and present them to us on the day that we hit the road. This was a great way to keep my brother and I from getting on each other's nerves and gave her some added peace, I'm sure, while on a long car trip.

Great list. When flying I always bring a change of clothes for them and a shirt for me. Just in case. Of course it is murphys law- if you bring it, you wont need it- but if you don't- it could be a bit of a horror show!
