i have a 2yr old .he won't sleep through the whole night anymore.he wants to be rocked and given a drink before going back to sleep. found out  dad will give him a cup of  milk during the night if he is up with him. after an hour it is my turn.i lay him back down turn on the sound machine and walk away. i will go back in his room every 10 mintues and do the same.i also don't talk at this time just rub his tummy.
