I loved doing this when I was a preschool teacher... and now that I am a mother it is just as great! It's so inexpensive to make the board and any pieces that you want, there are so many different ways to make the pieces... it's really what you have time for or how durable you want it to be. My daughter absolutely loves it... and I love any way to change things up so it's a great :)
I agree, when I taught preschool flannel boards were a favorite of both myself and my students. It is a great way to teach concepts such as community service, manners and so on. I however was provided the flannel boards and pieces by my preschool and have not thought about how to make them. i am horrible at drawing so where do you think I could find the patterns to make my own. i think my son would like it....
I just googled flannel board stories and tons of resources came up... I made one from construction paper and then covered with contact paper.. then you glue a piece of sand paper or felt on the back so that it will stick... then I have some that i cut just out of felt... then I have some I made from card stock and did not laminate, just glued the pieces of felt on the backs. It's very neat how you can do it so may different ways. There are also websites you can just order it all made for you! I have not done that because I wanted to make them in a few different ways but that option is certainly there :)
